The 10 Commandments, From a Dog's Perspective

Cooper: "Remember, I love you."
The 10 Commandments, From a Dog's Perspective
  1. My life is likely to last 10 to 15 years. Any separation from you will be very painful.
  2. Give me time to understand what you want of me.
  3. Place your trust in me―it's crucial to my well-being.
  4. Don't be angry with me for long, and don't lock me up as punishment. You have your work, your friends, your entertainment. I have only you.
  5. Talk to me. Even if I don't understand your words, I understand your voice.
  6. Be aware that however you treat me, I will never forget it.
  7. Before you hit me, remember that I have teeth that could easily crush the bones in your hand, but I choose not to bite you.
  8. Before you scold me for being lazy or uncooperative, ask yourself if something might be bothering me. Perhaps I've been out in the sun too long or my heart may be getting old.
  9. Take care of me when I get old. You, too, will grow old.
  10. Go with me on difficult journeys. Never say, "I can't bear to watch it" or "Let it happen in my absence." Everything is easier for me if you are there. Remember, I love you.

Greg :

The 4th commandment should touch the heart of a human. It should outright remind everyone of us that dogs or animals are not a "thing". Please don't get pets from puppy-mills!

Share' Littleton :

this also made me cry. I have lost many dogs and always held them while they passed, as hard as it was for me, passing with a stranger is worse for them...please remember this....

have 2 dogs now and love them very much

That was absolutely beautiful. I couldn't help but cry as well. I read it out loud to my dog and I think she understood it (and agreed).

Cherry :

I love this!
It got me teary eyed. I love my dogs very much. They are a very important part of my life. I could never let them "go" without me if could help it.
I see a lot of owners choose not to be with their pet where I work. I do my best to make that "journey" as peaceful and comfortable as possible. It is never easy. I am there for them.

Every animal lover will love this.It brought tears to my eyes.

Emily :

I agree with this for the most part.
I do have one dog that will bite. She bit my hand the other day(May 17, 2008) and we have had her since she was around three months old. She is around 10 and a half now.
My two other dogs are very loyal to me, especially my great dane and they both would never bite me.

>>>KP's Response:

Hi Emily,
Could she be in pain?

Hello!
There is a a series of phone straps from Japan entitled the 10 commandments of dog. Each strap comes with a little dog breed (I have the shiba Inu) and a plastic tag that has the commandment in Japanese. The list is really beautiful. The straps can be found on ebay. I love your blog KP as an adoring mum of two precious pooches with very different personalities. I am a shelter worker and appreciate all the canine topics you cover on here.Your pooches are all very sweet and I liked to hear about their individual stories. My shy and very perceptive shepherd/collie mix named Grissom was locked up in a basement and rarely fed up until he was about 9 months. My other dog is a holy terror, Mitsuki the Shiba Inu with a load of spunk and craftiness.

Every animal lover will love this.It brought tears to my eyes
